Yellowstone’s Rip and Carter dinner scene has a glaring continuity error – did you spot it? | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Yellowstone’s fourth season has everything Paramount Network viewers expect – from the wedding of Beth Dutton (played by Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) to the new romance between John Dutton (Kevin Costner) and Summer Higgins (Piper Perabo), and, of course, course, a surprising number of deaths and exits along the way. However, one of the most prominent talking points of the series is the arrival of a young Carter (Finn Little) into Rip and Beth’s lives.

After meeting in the hospital as Beth recovers from injuries inflicted by season three’s final blast while Carter watches her father play out his final days, the pair quickly develop a somewhat dysfunctional relationship.

With Beth’s maternal instincts kicking in and Carter loose after witnessing the last of his family die, Dutton takes her under his wing after he mischievously manipulates law enforcement to bring her down on his doorstep.

However, it’s safe to say that Rip wasn’t very happy with Carter walking into his then-fiancee’s life, acting cold and rude to outsiders for giving Beth “dog dog” eyes.

However, as the second episode of season four draws to a close, the first signs Rip is starting to warm up to the idea of having Carter on the ranch are starting to emerge.

When she asks Beth who Carter’s child is, Beth tells the other half: “I think he might be ours, honey.”

What happens for the rest of the season is Carter is shown the ropes at the ranch to prove his worth as well as develop bonds with the likes of Lloyd (Forrie J Smith) and the rest of the bunkhouse.

He also immediately impressed Yellowstone Ranch owner John with his work ethic and despite a brief spat after a disastrous shopping trip with Beth, Carter established himself as part of the family.

And because of that, he’s been a frequent presence at the infamous family dinner table throughout season four – though this one incident did seem to upset some viewers.

“The boy sat at the end of the table and Beth gave him his food.

“In the next shot and from then on, a large glass of orange juice miraculously appeared before him.”

The moment comes towards the end of the installment and the rewatch seems to back up the eagle-eyed fan’s claim.

The fourth season won’t be the last seen by Carter fans as Little’s actor status on the show is confirmed in the season five update.

Back in February, Paramount announced John and co would be returning for a fifth season and there was a move or two between the cast.

Starring Jimmy Jefferson White and his on-screen fiancee, Emily’s Kathryn Kelly are both returning but this time as a series stay.

And the same goes for Little and Teeter star Jen Landon, who also gets more airtime.

Yellowstone seasons 1-4 are available to stream on Peacock in the US. Seasons 1-3 air on PlutoTV in the UK.
