West Ham vs Viborg FF pertandingan preview
Having been so close to Europa League glory, West Ham had to settle for this season’s European Conference League after finishing seventh in the Premier League.
Danish club Viborg FF stand between them and a place in the group stages, which will be drawn on Friday 26 August.
The Hammers have endured a difficult start to the new Premier League season, losing to Man City and Nottingham Forest without scoring.
The defeat at the City Ground was painful after Said Benrahma’s goal was controversially ruled out and Declan Rice squandered a golden opportunity from the penalty spot.
Moyes lamented his team’s lack of lead after the defeat. “It’s the last pass, the final finish. We are trying to get to the next part,” he said.
Declan Rice missed a penalty in West Ham’s Premier League defeat to Nottingham Forest on Sunday
They already have work to do to match a top-seven finish the last two seasons and will again have to adjust to a hectic schedule if they overcome Viborg as expected.
Thursday’s opponents beat B36 Torshavn of the Faroe Islands to set up West Ham and are fourth in the Danish Super League after five games, winning three and losing twice.
They beat second-placed Silkeborg on Sunday with goals from Jay-Rot Grot and Christian Sorensen.
The visitors will be hoping they catch West Ham at the right time, with Rice, Moyes and Aaron Cresswell all suspended for various affairs in last season’s Europa League.
New signings Gianluca Scamacca and Maxwel Cornet can both feature as West Ham look to lighten the scoring burden on Michail Antonio.
BT Sport pundit Joe Cole has tipped West Ham to make their mark in the competition after last season’s impressive Europa League run.
“If West Ham can get to the last stage and win it, it will change the history of the club. This is a great opportunity,” he said.
