It was recently announced that the new Doctor Who The spring special will bring back a familiar enemy from the 1980s long-running show. A trailer has now been released, featuring Jodie Whittaker on a new high seas adventure. The doctor will travel to 19th century China and will have to face a pirate queen. Not only this, with the help of Sea Devils they are finally given the opportunity to shine. The recently redesigned monsters look better than ever. You can watch the extremely exciting trailer below:
No trailer would be complete without a hilarious tagline, and Doctor Who has offered quite good. The trailer tells the fans to “fasten your belts”. This is smart writing. The opening of the trailer shows Jodie Whittaker probably coming face to face with the Sea Devils, as this is her first line. The Doctor is accompanied by Dan and Yaz, as they seem to find Tardis at the bottom of the sea. There are sharks that seem to circle the Tardis, or they could very well be these annoying Sea Devils. The next shot is that of a large creature heading for the ship that can have the doctor and his crew. Not to mention that we have to face the pirate queen, Madame Ching.
The current showrunner for Doctor Who, Chris Chibnall, is said to be a fan of the old-school episodes of the series. He has already brought back the Silurians, for the 11th Doctor, which was in the fifth season of the series. This breed is the most advanced version of the Sea Devils. The Siluriians are said to have frozen cryogenically due to the belief that an asteroid would hit Earth. This asteroid simply became the moon and the Silurains woke up from their sleep. Both the Silurians and the Sea Devils lived in the age of the dinosaurs and often used dinos as their pets. They possessed some of the most advanced genetic engineering, which allowed them to create special creatures in times of war. The sea monster briefly featured in the trailer could be one of those creatures made by the Sea Devils. This, or is a brand new scary monster to face the Doctor. This will be one of the last tributes featuring both Chibnall and Jodie Whittaker, so it might be time for everything the couple wanted to show off. Both will be licensed later this year.
While Jodie Whittaker soon ends her time as The Doctor, the new Doctor Who spring special looks to be exciting. The Sea Devils, Madame Ching, and this big sea monster will be one of the last tests to appease her fans. Another quick download also seems to indicate that she is going to copy herself somehow. Why have a Whittaker when you can have a boat full? Chibnall seems to be making every effort to finish his course Doctor Whoand a pirate adventure is an adventure that will surely excite the hardcore and casual fans of the series. The Doctor Who: Legends of the Sea Devils The special will be broadcast on April 22 on the BBC.
