The Voice Australia 2022: Jess Mauboy cries after being emotional

A singer’s emotional performance of the classic Celine Dion fascinated coaches – but it was the post-show moment that Jess Mauboy choked on.

Jess Mauboy has been the first—but certainly not the last—voice coach to cry this season.

The jury pooled on the night of one of the blind auditions after a contestant dedicated their performance to their “number one fan”, their mother.

Turning his chair in seconds of 24-year-old Faith Sosene’s performance about Because you love me by Celine Dion, Jess has one question for the hopeful contestants.

“Faith, may I ask you, who are you singing this song for?” the astonished Australian Idol asked alum.

Faith, who is a full-time caregiver for her mother who suffers from arthritis and heart disease, held back tears as she answered.

“My beautiful mother.

“My mom has shown the most sacrificial love I’ve ever seen in my entire life… These lyrics really make it happen, so this song is very important to me,” he explained.

“We felt it,” Rita Ora told the singer, admiring the “passion” in her voice.

But it was Jess who was most affected by the power of the lyrics when she set the tone for her protégé.

“Well, Faith, it’s unbelievable to be honest,” he began.

“You really move everyone in this room, and the whole of Australia. I turned around instantly because of the strength in your voice, and when I turned around, your hand was outstretched, and I realized that you were singing to your mother… it was quite a shock to me, and to hear you say that and how your mother did it. sacrificed everything for you…” she said, taking a tearful pause.

“In an instant I really understood the story,” he continued.

“I love my mother, and she has done so much for me and my family. But she’s a complete rock, and she’s stood strong and undeniably and gracefully, she’s just going to make the most of the day,” Jess explained, adding that she was “honored” to have watched Faith perform.

“You singing to your mother really took me to that place.

“I’m so grateful and honored to be sitting here and you sharing that vulnerability… so thank you and thank you moms,” Jess concluded.

Because of Jess’s temper, Faith finally chose her as coach as her proud mother saw it.

Declaring Faith the team’s early favorite, Jess then used this season’s fast-track option to send the singer straight into the fray.
