Top Gun: Maverick is released 36 years after the original.

Welcome back to JOE’s weekly collection of the best trailers in the world of film and television.

While we covered the recently released teaser for the latest episodes of Netflix’s Ozark detective drama in a separate article here, there were a few other great trailers released in the last seven days that we’ve put together for your enjoyment.

Top Gun: Maverick

After some delays for Covid, the long-awaited action sequel Top Gun: Maverick will finally be released in Ireland on May 27, 36 years after the original.

Tom Cruise returns as Pilot Captain Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell, who is called in to train a group of Top Gun alumni for a specialized mission.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski (Oblivion) ​​and with Ed Harris, Glen Powell, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm and Miles Teller, based on the above trailer, you can expect shocking aerial action scenes from this blockbuster.

Having already done two very good, though unfortunately, dark thriller comedies – Faults and The Art of Self-Defense – screenwriter-director Riley Stearns returns with a new film that seems to have a similar tone.

Titled Dual, the film focuses on a woman (Karen Gillan) who chooses a cloning procedure after receiving a definitive diagnosis.

However, as she recovers, her attempts to disarm her clone (also Gillan) fail, leading to a court-ordered duel to the death between the couple.

Starring Breaking Bad co-star Aaron Paul, Dual launches in the US on April 15, so you can expect an Irish release sometime after that.

Minions: The Rise of Gru

The latest entry in the popular Despicable Me franchise, this sequel to the spin-off prequel Minions focuses on a 12-year-old Gru (Steve Carrell) who dreams of becoming the world’s biggest supervillain.

This happens as he receives some support from his loyal followers, the Minions.

Minions: The Rise of Gru seems to have plenty of humor that both adults and children alike will enjoy when it launches in Ireland on July 1st

Going on TV, this new true police drama from HBO is based on the popular documentary series of the same name.

Created jointly by Antonio Compos (The Sinner), the new series will explore the life of Michael Peterson (Colin Firth) and the suspicious death of his wife, Kathleen Peterson (Toni Collette).

Consisting of eight episodes, the show premieres in Ireland on Sky and NOW from 5 May.

The actress of The Handmaid’s Tale and Mad Men, Elizabeth Moss, starred in this upcoming Apple TV + thriller.

Based on the novel of the same name in 2013, Moss plays a reporter who learns that a recent murder is linked to an attack she suffered years ago, which left her in an ever-changing reality.

Starring Jamie Bell, Philip Soo and Wagner Moura, the shocking series airs on streamer on April 29th.

Last but not least, the successful French comedy series Call My Agent – which focuses on the lives and work of people working for a talent company – is being remade into Amazon Prime Video.

Bringing the action from Paris to London, the English-language version of the show will include cameos from David Oyelowo, Dominic West, Emma Corrin, Helena Bonham Carter, Himesh Patel, Jim Broadbent, Kelly Macdonald, Olivia Williams and others.

It will premiere on Prime Video on April 28.
