The company did not provide further details on McMillan’s death, but Generation Iron reports have since revealed he died after suffering a heart attack while running on a treadmill.

McMillan has recently struggled with health issues and postponed his return to competitive bodybuilding after experiencing respiratory problems due to COVID-19.

The bodybuilder also revealed in 2021 he was “nearly dead,” due to a heart problem he suffered in the middle of the year.

McMillan won the 2017 Arnold Classic bodybuilding competition, and the organizer, Arnold Sports Festival, said he was “heartbroken” in a tribute on Instagram.

“Known for his larger-than-life personality, infectious smile, gentle heart, and sense of humor loved by fellow competitors and fans alike, Cedric will be sorely missed,” the post read.

The organization is named after the famous bodybuilder Arnold Schwarzenegger, and the post includes a photo of McMillan and Schwarzenegger together.

McMillan won multiple titles and became a “star in the world of bodybuilding and fitness,” and served for more than 20 years in the US Army, where he rose to the rank of Sergeant First Class, the post continued.

“Above all, Cedric McMillan is a husband and father, and we extend our most sincere condolences to his family during this extremely difficult time,” it read.

McMillan was a member of the South Carolina National Guard at the time of his death, a spokesman told CNN.

He confirmed that the National Guard had been notified of his death, but declined to comment further.
