Simu Liu refuses to sign ‘offensive’ Shang-Chi comics at Congress

The protagonist of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Simu Liu, has set healthy limits for the offensive requests he receives from “fans”.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings Star Simu Liu invited people who bring offensive books to sign. For his upcoming appearance at Awesome Con in June, the actor defended himself by making it clear that he would not sign any comics with the subtitle “Master of Kung Fu”.

Marvel StudiosShang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings follows the title of the character as he tries to prevent his father from using the Ten Rings to awaken an ancient evil that is dormant. Shang-Chi is a Marvel character who has been around since the 1970s, but most of his early comics have the subtitle “Master of Kung Fu” and a lot of offensive images, especially with the depiction of Mandarin.

Liu will now be one of them Sang-Chi cast members who will attend The ACE Experience at Awesome Con on June 4, 2022. The Awesome Con website says Liu “will not sign any Master of Kung Fu comics or other comics that are considered offensive. All autographs by Simu will be signed in English only. ” The second half of the sentence is very indicative, as it seems that many “fans” asked Liu to sign their items in Chinese. To come in as an American and ask an actor to sign your subject in another language as if it is something you have to characterize is without a doubt very offensive. It is also very bold and strange to make this request to the actor.

Shang-Chi 2 Simu Liu Ideas

It is very good that Liu defended the right thing and makes sure that he is respected when he goes to these events. It is a pity that this is something he has to face after his success Sang-Chi. Hopefully, going forward, viewers and people as a whole will have more respect for people of different cultures and not make fun of things that, for others, are their way of life.

This is very similar to when people asked Michael B. Jordan and Chadwick Boseman to greet Wakanda Forever whenever he was outside. This was offensive for many reasons, as Wakanda is a fantastic place for someone. Number two is the equivalent of asking someone to play in front of you.

Finally, the greeting is intended for those associated with the imaginary location, which means that it is intended for a specific group of people, not strangers. It’s great to see Marvel incorporate other cultures into its world, but it would be even better if fans had more respect for the material.
