Simone Ashley (born Simone Ashwini Pillai) was born in Surrey, England, but has relatives in Ojai, California, where she spent much of her childhood summer. He eventually moved to Los Angeles at the age of 17 to pursue acting.

“They’re very supportive,” he told Jimmy Kimmel at Jimmy Kimmel Alive! about his parents. “I think it was a bit of an intervention when I ended up in LA; [they were] become crazy. But I think I just left.”

After signing with a modeling agency, Simone knew that she actually wanted to be an actor. Her first role was as a background “party girl” in 2015 Straight Out of Compton.

“It was a pretty wild first set ever,” he told Glamor. “I remember Corey Hawkins standing in front of me, doing his job, playing Dre. I really wanted to be like, ‘I want to be an actress too,’ but I didn’t. I just kept quiet.”

However, that small role earned Simone a small part in projects like Spacious church and wolf blood, which in turn earned him his big breakthrough role in Sex education as Olivia Hanan.

“We would all stay up until 2am just to chat,” Simone told Glamor UK. “It was amazing. It was very, very special. I made some lifelong friends on that set. We all grew up together.” He is very close to Aimee Lou Wood and Emma Mackey and says Asa Butterfield puts on a great game night.

Simone was in her trailer shooting another movie when she got a call that she had landed the role of Kate Sharma in Bridgerton Season 2 — and the timing is right after Season 1 came out.

“I was in a movie at the time, and I was in my trailer, and I got a call saying, ‘It’s kind of a secret, you can’t tell anyone but you got the role,’ Simone told Jimmy at Jimmy Kimmel Alive! “And then I got a knock on my trailer calling me to set up. So I put my phone down, put it in flight mode because it started blowing up a bit, and then I went to set, and I wasn’t allowed to tell anyone. And Season 1 is new. just came out, and everyone was talking about it in the cast, like, ‘Oh, we watched Bridgerton Season 1 over the weekend; I want to know what happened in Season 2,’ and I just had to sit there.”

And when casting news was finally announced, Simone was in the process of assembling an Ikea desk, according to Glamor UK. Oh, and he’s starting to get amazing messages of support from legends like Freida Pinto and Mindy Kaling.

“I remember watching Freida on Slumdog Millionaire and Mindy in everything she does,” Simone told Glamor UK. “She’s amazing. Nothing like it. He’s so cool. I would love to work with him. I think he’s a great writer, producer.”

Simone has a number of favorite scenes from Bridgerton Season 2, because, of course, it is impossible to choose just one.

“I love the scene where Kate and Anthony dance for the first time,” he told the New York Times. “And the bee sting scene – I think that’s the pivot in the story. The stakes really go up, and they realize that they have feelings for each other and that there’s this obstacle now between everything they’ve worked for. And I love all the riding scenes. horse.”

“I’m quite natural and I’m quite sporty,” he told Glamor UK. “In the beginning, I was in the saddle every day, pretty much for an hour to an hour and a half a day. I like it. After moving from LA, and a lot of changes, I think that’s something that really helps, because once you’re on the horse you’re kind of out of your head and you don’t think about anything else.”

Simone talks about what it means for her to see the fan reaction to having her, an Indian woman, in the lead role in Bridgerton.

“I’m incredibly grateful and incredibly overwhelmed by the response we’re receiving,” he told the New York Times. “I’m very proud of my legacy, and I’m proud that whatever effect I have, it’s just that I do my job, especially if it’s positive, and lift other women up and make them feel visible.”

She also discusses how, as a woman of color, she had to work twice as hard to get as far as she has.

“I have to work twice as hard, and maybe I haven’t really said that to myself and give myself a round of applause for that,” he told Reign With Josh Smith broadcast. “For me it’s always been like, ‘I’m just like any other actress, I can do this. I can put a script in front of me and bring characters to life, and I’m smart and be creative. Ideas and I can do this.’ But I think as women and women of color, you have to work harder…”

Apart from Simone’s many talents, she is also a classical singer.

“I grew up singing a lot and studying a lot of classical music, and then that kind of led to musical theatre, and I fell in love with musicals,” she told People magazine.

“I saw them at Dodger Stadium about four years ago, and I could only afford tickets which were very, very far away,” he told Glamor UK. “And I could barely see them. I lied to the front row because I really wanted to see Stevie Nicks up close.”

During the pandemic, Simone taught herself how to get a tattoo — and she even ended up getting some of her own Bridgerton cast member.

Finally, Simone will officially return as Kate alongside Jonathan as Anthony in Bridgerton Season 3.

“We will back! Kate and Anthony are just getting started,” he revealed at a dinner in Los Angeles, as reported by Deadline. “In Season 2, there was a lot of tug-of-war between Kate and Anthony, there were complications with the family, and then they found each other towards the end. I I think it’s just starting. I’d love to see Kate let go a little bit more and play more in Season 3 and swim in that circle of love together. I think they both deserve it.”
