Reese Witherspoon reunites with ex-husband and Evil aims co-star Ryan Phillippe to celebrate their son’s high school graduation in DIY style.
Deacon Reese Phillippe, 18, who is homeschooled, graduated high school in June. But the proud parents were determined to go all out and give Deacon a home graduation to remember.
In a video posted to Instagram, Deacon walks out into the classic “Pomp and Circumstance,” wearing a bright orange dress, matching hat and completing the look with some sunglasses.
Phillippe, dressed as the principal, and his two friends stood at the end of the backyard pool in ceremonial robes waiting to hand Deacon his high school diploma.
And with huge cheers from friends and family behind the camera, Deacon shook hands and accepted his certificate – tassel moved to the other side – and let out a “yeah!” the big one. before throwing his hat in the air.
Witherspoon proudly watched his son graduate—and then pulled a hat out of the pool.
He posted his own tribute to Deacon on Instagram to congratulate him on his graduation.
“So proud of such a wise, talented, kind & generous young man like you,” the post reads. “You light up our hearts and make us proud every day.”
The certified “Valedriptorian” shared his own photos on Instagram as well as a close-up photo of his diploma signed by his parents.
Deacon is the second child of Witherspoon and Phillippe who also has a 22-year-old daughter, Ava, who is pursuing a career in modeling and acting.
Despite splitting up in 2006, Witherspoon and Phillippe appear to have maintained a friendly relationship.
Witherspoon is currently married to Hollywood agent Jim Toth with whom she shares her nine-year-old son, Tennessee.
