One of the most anticipated movies of the year is Robert Eggers“Viking Epic, The North. Eggers himself commented that he worked hard throughout the production to maintain a high level of accuracy and intensity. The movie follows Alexander Scargard as Amleth, a Viking prince in an attempt to avenge the death of his father, King Horwendil (Ethan Hawke). Amleth spends his life devoted to the following mantra: “I will avenge you, father. I will save you, mother. I will kill you, Fjölnir.”
The North can boast of an impressive cast with Nicole Kidman taking on the role of Queen Gudrún, Amleth’s mother, Willem Dafoe as Heimir the Fool, and Anya Taylor-Joy as Olga. Taylor-Joy has previously worked with Eggers on the horror film A24 The Witch – The North also reunites Eggers and Taylor-Joy The witch stars Kate Dickey and Ραλφ Ίνεσον. Completing the cast The North also stars Claes Bang (The square) as Fjölnir, Björk as Seeress, and Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson (Game of Thrones) as Thorfinnr.
Egers has longed to bring the public to the Viking era for quite some time, and with The Northman, it seems that his dedication to history has certainly paid off. Eggers collaborated with the Icelandic writer Spectacle in the film, drawing inspiration from the authentic Scandinavian legend that inspired Shakespeare‘small Hamlet.
Eggers has spoken to Collider editor-in-chief in the past about his enthusiasm for the film, which has worked so hard. “This movie is really worth showing on the big screen because it is literally an epic, the scale of the scenery and some of the action sequences, and it is also more immersive when you are there,” Eggers said. The film has an R rating and a total screening time of 2 hours and 16 minutes. The North promises an impressive and extensive story of love, family and revenge, with many surprises in store for every moviegoer.
