MKR 2022 with Nigella Lawson and Manu Feildel: Frena stuns the table with a major crash

After tensions began to simmer between Alice and Frena on Sunday night’s episode of MKR, they immediately came to the fore over dinner at Ashlee and Mat’s “instant restaurant” in the contestants’ WA on Monday.

Ashlee and Mat, from Margaret River, were the last pair to beat Nigella Lawson, Manu Feildel and the contestants in group one.

Interested in serving fresh local ingredients from the region’s renowned food and wine region, a married couple started off hard, whipping up a marron bisque that everyone loved – except, again, for Steven and his fiancée Frena.

Steven and Frena are at the bottom of the leaderboard with 53 points, and if Ashlee and Mat do better than them with a deceptively simple three-course menu, the pair from South Australia are out of the competition.

Manu – who cut his teeth into bisque as a trainee chef – had high hopes for this dish.

And he absolutely loved it, even though he described it as a broth rather than a bisque.

So if Manu – who knows a good bisque when he sees it – loves it, why not Steven and Frena?

Steven called the bisque “boring” and “tasteless”, describing it as “watery tomato soup.”

Frena said she couldn’t finish it and didn’t like it.

Clearly frustrated at the constant negative reactions, Alice immediately confronted Frena about why she didn’t like food when other people were raving about it.

What happened next shocked the table into an awkward silence.

Frustrated, crying and shaking with anger, Frena berates Alice for “pull face” at her when she gives her reaction to food.

“Can I just say, you don’t have to make a face when I speak!” The restless Frena started.

“Everyone has their own personal opinion.

“I don’t need this now!

“I’d rather not be in a competition surrounded by this pretense!

“I’d rather go and keep my head up and still be a good person, than be bitter and ugly on the inside!”

Frena’s tirade made everyone around the table look very uncomfortable, including Manu and Nigella.

Steven tried to calm Frena down but if gazes could kill, everyone around the table – especially Alice – would pretty much die by this point.

“I’ve endured so much!” Frena continued.

“I am done.

“I won’t look back!”

He then storms away, with Steven close behind.

Manu followed, managed to calm the couple down and returned to the table.

When they did, Alice apologized, saying that she didn’t want Frena to feel that she was being “attacked.”

But in a separate on-camera interview, Frena described Alice’s apology as “insincere” – and the tension of the outburst never really went away for the rest of the night.

Luckily for Mat and Ashlee, they were mostly oblivious to the drama going on outside, busy with the main course of properly cooked venison.

They didn’t quite make it, and their dessert – a Dutch donut called Olliebollen – wasn’t a huge success either.

But on the strength of their main course, they managed to outperform Steven and Frena by a good margin.

That means they live to see another day – and Steven and Frena out of the competition.

MKR continues at 7:30pm Tuesday and Wednesday on Channel 7 and 7plus.
