“Maverick” Passes $1 Billion

Paramount Pictures

Paramount’s blockbuster and Skydance “Top Gun: Maverick” has surpassed the $1 billion global box office record over the weekend.

It’s the first film of the year to do so, and only the second since the pandemic began – the other being “Spider-Man: No Way Home” which ended up grossing $1.9 billion. “Jurassic World: Dominion” has already hit the $750 million mark and could join them in a few weeks.

That ‘Maverick’ achieved it within a month (31 days), and without Chinese or Russian box-office help is seen as very impressive.

In its fifth weekend, the film added a further $30.5 million to its now-high $521 million domestic tally. It’s also tightly battling “Elvis” for the top spot this weekend with the two expected to gross $30.5 million over three days – the final numbers (and winner) will be known tomorrow.
