Director James Mangold completed filming on the fifth “Indiana Jones” feature in late February after a lengthy production hit by delays and pandemic-related injuries.

Nonetheless, the film is in a can and while we’re over a year away from seeing the final result, one of the film’s stars has spoken about what we can expect.

Mads Mikkelsen, who is currently doing promotional rounds for his role as the villain in the new “Fantastic Beasts” film, spoke with THR about his work on the new Indy film. Along with talking about his love for “Raiders of The Lost Ark,” the actor said the new installment will return to the franchise’s roots:

“[‘Raiders of The Lost Ark’] is one of my favorite films, and it streamlines the series’ golden period from the 1940s – and that’s in the fifth film too. They would go back to the first and second films and get the feel of the original, the original Indy, something solid and epic. It feels like a Spielberg movie, although it’s clear James made it with the same vision.”

Spielberg is still involved as a producer on the film which also features nearly 80-year-old Harrison Ford reprising his iconic role. Despite his age, Mikkelsen has nothing but praise for Ford’s physique:

“I remember the first day we shot, it was a night shoot, then we stopped at 5am – and then he got on his mountain bike and went on his 50km bike ride. Harrison is a male monster, a very good monster.”

Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Antonio Banderas, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, Shaunette Renee Wilson and Toby Jones also star in the film, which hits theaters on June 30, 2023.
