Kylie Minogue’s Neighbor final appearance explained

It was one of the biggest fan questions during the nostalgia-filled 90-minute special for Neighbors: why are celebrity guests Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan practically mute?

Fans were baffled by the pair’s brief appearance and lack of getting along with their fellow co-stars in the final episode of last week’s long-running soap.

They also only had a few lines, with Minogue – arguably Ramsay Street’s most successful export – saying only five words: “Home, sweet home”, “Jane!” and “Harold!”

Their brief return as a beloved couple on screen Charlene and Scott seemed thinner when compared to Guy Pearce’s return to soap operas, which became the main ending storyline.

Neighbor’ executive producer Jason Herbison finally responded to fan confusion, saying TV Tonight that it all boils down to timing – and that the couple’s secret filming was over before the rest of the episode.

“Our discussions with Jason (Donovan) and Kylie have always been about making small appearances,” she told the website.

“They don’t want to overshadow the current players or make a final about them. We also shot their scenes before I wrote the episodes, so whatever we film has to match that. I hate to see Kylie address any criticism – she was absolutely amazing back in the day. ”

Last week’s final saw original Minogue stars Donovan and Pearce return alongside a host of other fan favorites, including Margot Robbie, Holly Valance and Natalie Imbruglia.

Neighbor actress Christie Whelan revealed that while Robbie’s scene had to be filmed in Los Angeles, she made a very sweet gesture to her colleagues to honor the occasion.

The actress delivered 37 bottles of champagne to the Melbourne location so the entire cast and crew could toast when filming was over.

Nearly 900,000 Australians watched the final episode of Neighbors last week.

After 37 years on our screens, the soap opera has nearly 873,000 views across the five metro capitals, according to ratings published on TV Tonight.
