Some fans couldn’t get enough of the moment, though others questioned the move.

“A true fan girl moment for the Duchess of Cambridge – when Tom Cruise helps her up the stairs at Top Gun Maverick premiere, with Prince William looking so happy for his wife!” one fan tweeted.

Others on social media questioned whether the actor “should” touch the royals, with one note Kate “changed the clutch immediately so she doesn’t touch it again”.

“We have a lot in common. We both love England and we’re both aviators, we both love to fly,” the actor said, before sharing his joy at being back on the red carpet.

“I love what I do, I’ve always enjoyed it and I enjoy it even more now.

“Especially after the past few years, just to have an event like this is already amazing.”
