Sunderland will be desperate to finally secure a return to the Championship when they face Wycombe in the League One play-off final this afternoon.

After being relegated in 2018, it has been four long years in England’s third tier for Sunderland and they earned their final bid for promotion at Wembley against a Wycombe side very familiar with this stage.

Gareth Ainsworth’s side rose to the Championship via the play-off final two seasons ago, before finishing 22nd and being relegated in the club’s first campaign in the second division.

They were looking to return at the first moment of asking – it promised to be a very tight affair, potentially extending over 90 minutes.

Sunderland have been awarded an additional 2,500 tickets, as Wycombe did not sell their allocation, meaning there will be over 46,000 Black Cats fans at Wembley.
