THE SCREEN VIDEO OF THE DAY

The 30 seconds YouTube excerpt from Screening time characterizes an almost unrecognizable Anderson as prominent First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. Opening with Roosevelt sitting humbly, as she states in one voice, “the name Roosevelt opens doors“, The trailer ends with a flashback of herself as a young woman, played by Eliza Scanlen, as she is approached by her future husband Franklin. The video highlights Roosevelt’s public and private life as she is pushed to address “women’s issues”, which she refuses to talk about when told she had to give a press conference to discuss the clean-up. The original Showtime series is scheduled to premiere on April 17.

As an anthology drama, The First Lady will restate the American leadership narrative focusing on the political and personal lives of three women who shaped history. Along with Roosevelt, the first season will also feature the careers of Betty Ford, played by Michelle Pfeiffer, and Michelle Obama, played by Viola Davis. Anderson is no stranger to portraying influential people. She won an Emmy Award in 2021 for her performance as Margaret Thatcher inside The crown and is in the early stages of developing a project focusing on a currently unknown historical figure.
