Crowded House postpones remaining Australian shows as Neil Finn tests positive for COVID – Music Reads

The band has four dates left on their Australian tour

Full house have postponed the remaining dates of their current Australian tour after Neil Finn tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday.

“I am absolutely devastated to have to postpone the last four shows of our Australian tour as I tested positive yesterday morning for COVID,” Finn said in a statement.

“In very difficult conditions for this tour we stayed in our bubble and adhered to very strict protocols but somehow the virus still got through.

“I’m relieved to have only mild symptoms at this stage and grateful for the protection my triple vaccination provides.

The band has been on the road in Australia for the last two weeks and just played a big headline set at Bluesfest on Sunday night.

They will wrap up the tour with shows in Hobart, Canberra, Geelong and the Hunter Valley this week. Fans are urged to hold on to their tickets and keep an eye on upcoming dates.

“I’m very sorry to disappoint our fans this next week, but rest assured we’ll be back to make a good one,” said Finn.

This year the band released their seventh album Dreamer Waitingand while it doesn’t set the world on fire in the same way their record smash hits back in the ’80s and ’90s, it does remind us that Neil Finn’s songwriting talent is still as sharp as ever.

It also demonstrates the continued strength of the Finn family as an entity. The band now features Neil’s two sons, Liam and Elroy, which feels like a natural progression for a band that at one time was led by the unstoppable combination of Neil and the Tim brothers.

Founding bassist Nick Seymour remains in the band, and longtime collaborator Mitchell Froom recently joined as a full member. Neil told us a bit about the new line-up last year.

As great as their new record, the Crowded House songbook is deep and packed with perfect pop songs that let us feel things only a few other bands can.

The Sydney band released their second LP, Today We Are The Greatest, earlier this year. It won the ARIA for Best Rock Album and showed fans that the trio’s mature songwriting was getting richer.
