ENTREPRENEURISM Advocate Jose Maria “Joey” Concepcion 3rd is pushing for the digital transformation of the country’s Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
Concepcion made the statement ahead of Go Negosyo hosting Digital Sign Up Now 2022, one of its biggest digital transformation events.
Concepcion is the founder of Go Negosyo.
Organized by Go Negosyo in collaboration with the US Embassy in Manila, the event aims to bring together the two growth drivers of the country’s economic development: MSMEs and digital technology.
“Digitalization is the great equalizer. The pandemic has accelerated the digital transformation of many MSMEs. They are the ones who have benefited immensely from e-wallets, delivery apps and social media, allowing them to compete with the big players,” Concepcion said in a statement.
“Bringing these two growth engines together will result in many benefits down the line,” he said.
Concepcion said MSMEs make up almost all businesses in the Philippines and generate up to 65% of jobs.
Additionally, he noted that the Philippines has the fastest growing digital consumers, citing the 2021 “e-Conomy SEA” report by Google, Temasek and Bain & Company.
Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic and up to the first half of 2021, the country registered 12 million new digital consumers, 63% of whom came from rural areas of the country, Concepcion said.
He said he hoped that during Digital Sign Up 2022, “we will teach MSMEs how to use digital technology to make their operations efficient, reduce their costs and expand their markets.”
The event is designed as a free learning platform for MSMEs where they can learn from the experiences and best practices of other entrepreneurs who have successfully transformed their business using digital platforms.
It will also introduce attendees to possible business collaborations with different digital technology companies, as well as the knowledge of professionals specializing in creative services, brand imagery, fintech, as well as cybersecurity.
Participants can choose from 11 half-hour sessions. They will also receive one-on-one mentoring from big brother companies and digital experts.
Organized exhibitions and activation booths will also be showcased during the event, including the Angat Lahat sa Digital Alliance of Go Negosyo, where MSMEs and participants can register on-site.
Participants will also have the chance to win cash prizes to start and grow their business.
MSMEs, founders of digital startups, senior executives of leading digital technology companies and incubators, creative industry experts, innovation experts and startups, as well as young professionals and students in the field of digital technology.
