TThere’s nothing here that I like more than a good roll. It’s something I leave late into the night, when my brain is at its lowest operational capacity and only has the stamina for a little TikToks stomach with one eye open as my mind prompts me to turn off your phone, Chris, for God’s sake can’t you see how much you want to sleep now, the internet will be here tomorrow please let me rest.
As time passed, so did my ability to absorb more substantial content. I’d start my day by trying to read something, then maybe watch a TV series – but at 2pm it’s just YouTube, and after my carb-heavy dinner, I ride Instagram and TikTok until I pass out. So with that in mind, here are the best things I’ve seen on the internet so far.
1. Parks and Recreation: the view of the ice rink
When I watched this episode of Parks and Rec on my phone at the airport, I laughed so hard that people shifted seats to get away from me. One of the biggest airport laughs of my life.
2. TikTok: “Ahhh” Girl
It arrived on TikTok this week and I really like it. One girl hurts her back, makes funny noises, and the whole internet taunts her tirelessly about it. The community we have built!
3. Caitlin Reily: “Actress on Instagram who ‘writes a book’”
Caitlin Reilly is actually the best in the game. The character videos are so accurate that you feel personally attacked every time, even if you’re not an actor writing a book. He singlehandedly erased LA’s frenzied culture and I love him for it.
4. TikTok: Maddie Grace Jepson’s Account
Maddie is so cute to me and I don’t know why. He has tapped into the crazy energy we have when we are home alone for too long and want to entertain ourselves. The videos make little sense at all – however, they are very relatable.
5. Guy Montgomery on the news
Guy Montgomery is a good friend who has stayed with me for a whole month during the Melbourne international comedy festival. Every night before I go to bed he comes into my room and does this whole routine to me before I go to sleep and it never ceases to make me laugh.
6. Jenny Slate about her love at midnight mass
I love Slate’s Netflix special Stage Fright, but this is by far my favorite part, and I’m so glad it’s a fun little clip on YouTube that I can watch every day.
7. Alistair Green on Instagram
Every time I watch Alistair Green’s videos, I gasp first – and then watch them again to laugh. They feel so real, and always seem to poke fun at the most hurtful man in our society. He honestly should be locked up for the videos – so funny they feel illegal.
8. Thomas Sainsbury at the Club Car Alarm
Thomas is one of my best friends and lifelong collaborators, and I wanted to take this opportunity, writing in Guardian Australia, to share a video of him dancing to a car alarm.
9. TikTok: Gay men gasping for air
The little one is quick now to solve the problem. Is there a better sound than three gay men all gasping for air together?
10. TikTok: Spider-Man failed
I feel like a nuisance for sharing this one, but I love the story behind this video, and the conversation that will follow.
