Barcelona open their La Liga campaign when they host mid-table side Rayo Vallecano at Camp Nou on Saturday.
The Blaugrana will start the campaign with four of the five prized summer acquisitions after successfully registering them just one day before the opening game. To do so, Barcelona will have to trigger another financial lever to get their books ready in La Liga to pave the way for Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie to play against Rayo. Jules Kunde’s registration is still pending and he will not appear for the time being.
The new faces will give Barcelona a much better chance of getting revenge against Rayo Vallecano’s side who doubled the league title over Barca last season with a pair of 1-0 wins. Rayo somehow managed to seal an attack that featured Sergio Aguero in one game and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the other. Rayo’s win at Camp Nou in April was their only win in the last four months of the season.
The club from the Vallecas section of Madrid finished 12th in the table despite a slip at the end of the season, which they hope does not translate into a similar struggle during the upcoming 2022/23 league campaign.

Barcelona vs. line-up Rayo Vallecano
With a summer signing listed and ready to play, Xavi Hernandez has chosen this most prolific and balanced line-up of pre-season. Big names like Memphis Depay, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Frenkie De Jong, and Sergino Dest, who also happen to be in demand in the transfer market, will be dropped from the bench.
Barcelona line-up (4-3-3, right to left): 1-Marc-Andre Ter Stegen (GK) — 4-Ronald Araujo, 15-Andreas Christensen, 24-Eric Garcia, 18-Jordi Alba — 30-Gavi, 5-Sergio Busquets, 8-Pedri — 7-Ousmane Dembele, 9 -Robert Lewandowski, 22-Raphinha.

Rayo Vallecano finished the season in poor form, but are still in mid-table (12). They could use more production from attacking positions: Sergio Camello has won a starting place over 36-year-old Colombia forward Radamel Falcao, who lost his place in the lineup last season. Luca Zidane and Sergi Guardiola, sons of Zinedine Zidane and Pep Guardiola, both left the club this summer and are no longer with the team.
Rayo Vallecano line-up (4-3-3, right to left): 13-Stole Dimitrievski (GK) — 20-Ivan Balliu, 19-Florian Lejeune, 5-Alejandro Catena, 3-Fran Garcia — 17-Unai Lopez, 8-Oscar Trejo, 21-Ismaila Pathe Ciss — 7-Fill Palazon, 16 -Sergio Camello, 18-Alvaro Garcia.
Substitute Rayo Vallecano (12): 1-Diego Lopez (GK), 30-M. Morro (GK), 2-Mario Hernandez, 4-Mario Suarez, 10-Bebe, 11-Randy Nteka, 14-Salvi Sanchez, 23-Oscar Valentin, 22-Jose Pozo, 28-Pablo Munoz, 29-Diego Mendez, 9 -Radamel Falcao

Opportunity through DraftKings (USA) & Sports Interaction (Canada)
There is little value in picking Barcelona to win, as they are heavy favorites thus ruining the experience.
Rayo may have kept Barcelona off the scoresheet for two full games last season, but doing so against a revitalized Blaugrana attack would be a completely different task. The likes of Lewandowski, Dembele, Raphinha and Aubameyang have all had a fantastic pre-season and should be ready to fill the back of the net.
While Rayo are a strong defensive side, Barcelona’s forward line cannot be held back any longer, forcing Rayo to follow suit. The mid-table side were not very productive up front, and Barcelona should go home with a win and a clean sheet.
- Choose: Barcelona wins to zero (-145 at DraftKings)
- Forecast: Barcelona 2-0 Rayo Vallecano
