During a stand-up comedy, recent Oscar presenter Amy Sumer let go of the controversial Alec Baldwin joke that was cut from the broadcast.
During a recent stand-up show, Amy Schumer revealed Alec Baldwin joke that she was told not to tell in 2022 Oscar ceremony. Schumer co-hosted this year’s film festival with Wanda Sykes and Regina Hall, and while the night was filled with important firsts for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, much of the attention has since turned to a controversial moment that happened during of retransmission. Shortly before he won Best Actor for his performance in King Richard, Will Smith took the stage and slapped Chris Rock after the comedian made a bad joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. Other than that, though, the Oscars were full of exciting wins for films like CODA and Dune.
The Oscars essentially summed up last year in filmmaking, but it was an important event that passed with little mention. Last October, Baldwin was filming Western Rust when, during rehearsal, he accidentally threw a gun and fatally hit filmmaker Halina Hutchins. Since then, there has been extensive investigation into the incident and Baldwin has been pushed back against those who claim responsibility. Hutchins was nominated for this year’s In Memoriam at the Oscars.
Per Variety, Schumer was playing a stand-up comedy in Las Vegas on Saturday, April 2, when she revealed a Baldwin joke she was not allowed to tell at the Oscars. “Don’t Look Up is the name of a movie? More like not looking under the barrel of Alec Baldwin’s shotgunHe also said that he had jokes about Joe Rogan and James Franco, but they were considered very controversial. Sumer also dismissed an additional report on the Smith incident, adding:I was not allowed to say any of that [at the Oscars]but you can just go up and [slap] someone. “
Since last month, Baldwin has returned to acting for the first time since Rust shooting, starring in a pair of Christmas movies titled Child Santa Claus and Billie’s magical world. The news came just a week later Rust Hannah Gutierrez Reed’s armor claimed responsibility for Baldwin’s shooting, saying he should never point the gun at Hutchins. So far, Baldwin has not been charged with anything, although he has been named in a lawsuit by the Hutchins family.
While Schumer obviously has no problem revealing her controversial Oscar jokes to the world right now, it is safe to say that it was wise to keep Baldwin’s report out of the ceremony. Schumer shouted a lot, especially about it Do not look up and Being Ricardobut to trigger a joke about a tragedy like Rust the shooting would be bad taste. The Oscar The audience at both Dolby and home did not have to deal with bad humor, and the Hutchins’s family did not deserve to hear this tragedy told unnecessarily through jokes.
